LoveSick Expo: The Expo for Your Not-So-Typical Brides

I’m gonna let you in on a little secret: I’m not really into wedding planning.

This isn’t much of a secret to my loved ones, though.

Don’t get me wrong, I love being engaged. I love being engaged so much, I will have been engaged for two years by the time I say, “I do.”

I guess I’m just not the planning type. And to suddenly have to plan a party for 90 people, with money you don’t really have, planning things you have no experience in is just… difficult.

I find that planning the honeymoon is a lot more exciting.

So when my Mom told me about the LoveSick Wedding Expo in Downtown Los Angeles, I was slightly skeptical. She sent me over the email and I was quick to turn her down. Until I saw this:

They had me at “I-Hate-Wedding-Expo.”

The Los Angeles location was hosted at The Unique Space in the Arts District, a workspace that provides offices as well as event space, and it was as indie as it gets!

My sister and I met up with my Mom at the LoveSick Expo on February 21st, where we were greeted by the coolest wedding vendors ever. While grooms are encouraged to join in the festivities, Kevin happened to be working that day. Despite his lack of attendance, I had so much fun! From skeeball to bowler hats to some of the best catering in LA, this was the best expo ever!

Not bad for a girl with a hangover.

And each vendor was extremely approachable. You know that feeling at other bridal expos where you feel like you’re talking to a salesman? Definitely not the case here.

Not only was this about couples meeting their potential vendors and learning about the kind of wedding they want, it was also highly entertaining. There were men on stilts, burlesque dancers, and multiple kinds of photo booths. And despite the fact that I couldn’t drink because of my hangover my work shift later that evening, there were plenty of drinks to go around from a really cool bartending service.

Yes, that is a sour gummy garnish in this Whiskey cocktail.

It was totally my scene and just the mojo I needed! Not only did I find my favorite/potential wedding videographer there (who is so talented!), but I later found my wedding dress after the expo was over! All in all, it was amazing day for this not-so-typical bride.
