My Birthday Trip Around the World

I’ve been a bad blogger. Some of you might have noticed that I haven’t posted anything for quite a while. And those of you who haven’t noticed, it’s you folks that keep me blissfully guilt-free. While my excuse for not writing is a good one (wedding planning is sooo hard, guys), it’s time for me to get back into the swing of things. So now that I’m back, I wanted to share with you my fabulous birthday “around the world” (which was a month ago. UGH)!

Last year, my fiance gave me a wonderful 25th birthday soaring over the sky at sunrise in a hot air balloon. This year, he wanted to take it up a notch and you know, travel. But with our honeymoon coming up and the crazy wedding spending, a flight to Italy wasn’t in the books. So Kevin decided to take me “around the world” in a day. Each location inspired by places I love or places I really want to visit.

The first stop of the day: an English pub in Studio City, The Fox and Hounds.

Once upon a time, Kevin and I had a romantic dream to move to London. Sounds so dreamy, right? I would get my Masters in… something and Kevin would… figure it out? Needless to say that concrete idea didn’t work out. So black and tans at 11:00 a.m. in the Valley would suffice.

Our second stop: My favorite travel bookstore, Traveler’s Bookcase.

I first learned of this enchanted place from Nomadic Matt’s book tour. I know. I’m a nerd. Ever since then, I’ve come here for all of my travel literary needs. So, on my birthday, it only made sense to purchase a book to prepare for our honeymoon.

Our third stop:

Kevin has this plan, you see. After our honeymoon and after more money is saved and before screaming babies are had, Kevin wants to travel Italy for one month. I can’t wait. But until then, gelato = Italy.

Our fourth and final stop: A New Orleans inspired restaurant, Preux and Proper.

(Technically, a nap came before this.) A trip to New Orleans have been on and off our calendars for almost 3 years now. Something about the booze and the food and the culture… and the booze. I’ve been trying to tackle this trip for so long! But Preux and Proper was the next best thing!

Despite the blog post delay, I’m still accepting ‘Happy Birthday’ wishes. Yay 26!
