Hotel Review: A Sunset Chateau Bed and Breakfast

After our trip through Phoenix, we were back on our mini, Arizona road trip! Our next stop was Sedona and instead of looking for a grand hotel to accommodate us, we were looking for a more romantic, local experience. We got that and then some at A Sunset Chateau Bed and Breakfast!

I didn’t know much about Sedona before we decided to travel there. I knew there were rock formations and it had a reputation for being an “off-the-beaten-path” kind of place. But it’s always the places you know the least about that surprise you.

The Property

Once we walked through the adobe courtyard and ornate, iron gate, we were greeted by Janet and Phillipe, a multi-continental couple who opened this bed and breakfast several years ago with their son and two daughters.

They informed us that their property, A Sunset Chateau Bed and Breakfast, was recently renovated to include luxury accommodations and amenities. Each room contains a spacious layout plan, a kitchen, individually picked artisan pieces from Arizona and Sedona, panoramic Red Rock views, and blissful elegance.

We stayed in the beautiful Bella Vista Suite, which included stunning views of the Red Rock formations and overlooked the relaxing pool outside from our private balcony.

Unfortunately, there was a contained fire a few miles from Sedona the next morning, bringing a cloud of smoke that loomed over all of Sedona. So our fabulous views were limited to our first night of arrival. (But we totally didn’t care because WE WERE IN HEAVEN.)

This suite was so luxurious and romantic, I couldn’t contain my excitement!

I also didn’t hesitate to take a bath in our grandiose 2-person spa tub or lay out on our balcony and enjoy the sunset. It was like our honeymoon all over again!

The Amenities

Even the most standard room, or the Casita Suite, contains a generous floor plan, a kitchen, and stunning views. But the bigger the room, the more likely you’ll never ever want to leave! All of the rooms include:

  • A living room
  • Electric fireplace
  • Full kitchen with fridge, range, microwave, toaster, and coffeemaker
  • EO Organic soaps & bathroom amenities
  • 2 Sinks, shower and hairdryer
  • Cable TV & DVD
  • Central A/C & Heat
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi
  • 600+ sq. ft.

While we did not stay in the Royal Hacienda Suite (their crown jewel), we did manage to sneak a peek inside as we were right next door! Along with beautiful views and a HUGE suite, this newly remodeled suite includes:

  • Includes breakfast for 4
  • Beautiful Red Rock views from balcony, living room, and master bedroom
  • 2 BR, 1 King & 1 Queen Bed
  • 2-person jetted tub in master bedroom
  • 3 Cable HDTV’s, one in living room and in each bedroom
  • 1000 sq. ft.

Things to Do

A Sunset Chateau Bed and Breakfast is known for being a romantic or relaxing getaway. While Janet and Phillipe provide you with a ton of information of the surrounding area, you’ll find yourself quite attached to the Southwest-inspired hammocks surrounded by a waterfall and garden, the on-site pool and jacuzzi or the two-person spa bathtub in your room.

A Sunset Chateau also boasts a prime spot as it’s near some of the best hiking trails in Sedona. Located about 15 minutes from A Sunset Chateau Bed and Breakfast is the famous Airport Mesa Vortex!

If you know the spiritual, unnatural and awesome things that happen in a vortex, than it’s probably already on your bucket list. Take a hike to the top of this surreal and eerie place and you will find yourself feeling all kinds of strange energy!

And if after hiking you want to participate in something a little more active, there are two tennis courts available to guests 5 minutes away from the hotel.

Before wandering around Sedona, make sure to grab a free breakfast compliments of A Sunset Chateau Bed and Breakfast! Each breakfast is a different featured meal as well as complimentary fruit, oatmeal, cereal, juice, coffee and tea.

The Staff

Getting to know the staff started via email communication with their son and marketing manager, Jean. He was incredibly accommodating when discussing my reservation and sent me a separate email giving me a list of favorite restaurants in the area, things to do and what to expect in Sedona.

Janet and Phillipe were beyond helpful, charming and kind. From the minute we stepped foot in A Sunset Chateau Bed and Breakfast, we felt like we were family! I think we spent a half hour talking to the couple as we checked in. (This couple have quite a few adventurous tales to tell!)

This family has a real knowledge of high-end hospitality and made sure to deliver luxury and privacy in a way that felt approachable and friendly. No question or request is too silly or out of their way!

This family’s kindness and warmth is unmatched in any of my experiences traveling in the United States. I will 100% be back the next time I visit Sedona (which is very likely, as it’s probably my new favorite place to travel)!
